About Us

Recess. Second grade. Some kids played foursquare, some were on the swing, and some played Jedi mind tricks on each other while using chapsticks as light sabers. The future CEO, Daniel Polo, on the other hand, was mesmerized by something his friend was showing him, something that he had never once thought of making: a flip-book animation. It was simple yet so ingenious.  It was Tarzan swinging through the trees and it proved to be the catalyst for the creation of his company: Sleepworksstudios.

Later that day Daniel Polo sat down to do his homework and once he was done a genius idea hit Polo like a brick; he should design his own flip-book. After attempting to create several flip-book animations, Daniel soon realized that they were all terrible yet he really liked the idea so he decided to create a company instead.

Daniel promptly “hired” his flip-book making friend to make...flip-books! There was a problem though. What would a seven year old Polo do? Clearly, he couldn’t just sit idly by as his friend created mind-bending animations! Daniel wanted to have fun, too. So, Daniel decided to create something together: comic books. Daniel told his friend about his new plan and his friend agreed. The plan was for Daniel to write stories for at least three comic books a week as his friend would draw.

Together, the two made over thirty comics in one year. Thanks to their success, the company increased in size as well! Two classmates would work on the new found animation "department" and seven other kids would start working on the comics.

Soon, Sleepworksstudios was officially created. Over the next few years, the team would continue to evolve in their "comical comics" and "flip-mation" expressions. In 2007 however, Sleepworksstudios was about to transform yet again. Impressed by the fantastic stop-motions of the time, the Sleepworksstudios team decided to venture into this unique storytelling technique and the rest, as they say, is history!
